Those mods are the product of dedicated communities of fans and players, and what follows are some of the most active ones we have today. And there is no denying that some of the more recent games like Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V have thrived as much as they have on the back of mods. Early examples include Valve's Team Fortress, which was originally a Quake mod back in the day, and Counter-Strike, which was a Half-Life mod. Some of the biggest games we've gotten over the years actually started out as mods themselves.
